Governance

As a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), our schools are joined as a single legal entity: Endeavour Academy Trust. We are a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity. We have one shared governance and leadership structure:

The Members

Members play a limited but crucial role in safeguarding academy trust governance. While they must ensure they do not stray into undertaking the Academy Trustees' role, they should assure themselves that the governance of the trust is effective, that Academy Trustees are acting in accordance with the trust’s charitable object(s) and that they, the Members, use their powers to step in if governance is failing.

Members help to ensure that Academy Trustees are exercising effective governance by utilising a range of powers including: appointing and removing Members, appointing and removing Academy Trustees, amending the Trust’s Articles of Association and appointing and removing Auditors.

Over the past 12 months, the Members of Endeavour Academy Trust have been:

The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible to the Members and has responsibilities for the trust's strategic management. Its duty is to manage the trust's affairs, ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory duties and assume the responsibility of employer. All of our trustees have a duty to act within the trust's objectives and powers, without conflict of interests and without personal benefit.

The trust board is the decision-making body of the academy trust and is accountable and responsible for all the academies in the trust.  Academy Trustees are the people who make up the trust board and are appointed by the Members.  The trust board must operate and make decisions to further the academy trust’s charitable object, which is ‘to advance for the public benefit education in the United Kingdom’.  As the strategic leader of the academy trust, it is vital that the trust board is connected and engages with the communities and stakeholders it serves.

The trust's Chief Executive Officer is an ex-officio trustee. All other Trustees have a 4-year term of office.

The Local Governing Bodies

The members of each school’s LGB are proposed by the Headteacher and Chair of the LGB and approved by the Trust Board.  Governors have a four-year term of office and may be reappointed or re-elected.  The CEO is considered an ex-officio member of each LGB.

Each Local Governing Body has an individual academy remit, which enables it to focus on the performance and scrutiny of teaching and learning; student behaviour, attendance, safety and wellbeing; and stakeholder engagement. The Chair of each Local Governing Body reports to the Board of Trustees to ensure a constant line of communication.

For details of current local governing body membership, including business and pecuniary interest as well as meeting attendance information, please see the governance section of the relevant academy website.
